Glass Coldworking : Part II | Fall 2014

Glass Coldworking Projects : Part II

This course offered comprehensive technical instruction on basic glass"coldworking" processes including glass polishing, sandblasting, etching, cutting, engraving, gluing, laminating, and glass drilling. The studio consisted of intensive demonstrations of all techniques in order to develop specific exercises and additional self developed projects.
Below, you will find the second half of my coldworking projects and a series of images of the process behind each project developed throughout the Fall of 2014.

Vessel I | Lip Treatment Exercise
For this assignment, we were handed a large bubble which we could cut to the shape of our choice. Using the belt sander and lathe, the lip of the vessel had to be shaped and polished. A bottom had to be lapped, in order for the vessel to remain stable on a surface.

Machinery/Tools:
Diamond Saw, Belt Sander, Lathe, Flat Lap, Felt Polishing Wheel
Vessel II | Engraving Exercise
This assignment consisted of similar skills developed with the previous vessel, but with the addition of a surface treatment done by engraving. After bubble was cut, the lip had to be treated by using a combination of the belt sander and lathe. Finally, the engraving was all done on a lathe and a bottom was added to the vessel on a flat lap.
